About Me

Romelvi Medrano LMHC, RMFTI
Everyone has their own past, goals, struggle, and story to tell. However, sometimes along the way we become lost. We hit a roadblock that can seem impossible to move or get around, that is when a bit of guidance can go a long way. I entered this field to help people find their way down a path that they believe is right for them. I truly believe that as long as people want to change their lives, and we are willing to put in the work, then I believe we are capable of almost anything.
I am a graduate from Stetson University. I have a Master's degree in both Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a degree in Marriage, Family, and Couple's Counseling. When working with individuals, I use 3 main approaches. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help people use logic to combat their worries, Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore the idea of who the "self" is, and Reality Therapy to empower my clients and help them plan out their steps for success. For couples and families I use a mix of Gottman Theory, Attachment-based therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy to help understand the depths of each person's emotions, discuss the pitfalls that lead to separation, and create a system to help better navigate conflict.
For those interested in more than traditional talk therapy, I do conduct Sand Tray therapy exclusively in person. This will option will become available in the near future. Feel free to ask questions to learn more about this form of treatment to find out if it is right for you.
The amount of sessions it takes to see change depends on both the client and the provider. Factors such as competency on the provider's end, compatibility, size of change, honesty, and willingness to try new approaches can all speed up or slow down the therapeutic process.
How long does therapy take?
If you are participating in self-pay, then we will schedule the first session together through the contact form. If you are using insurance, then clicking the links provided on both the Home and Schedule page will give you a link to schedule your first session. After the first session, we can either schedule the next session together, or you can schedule it yourself through the Simple Practice or Headway.
How will scheduling work?
The first session is mostly treated as a "get to know you" session. This gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have to determine if I am the right fit for you. It is also meant to help me gain an overall understanding of your main reason for seeking counseling, your history, and background so that I can assess the best course of action to take in therapy.
What happens in the first session?
The sliding scale is available for those who are currently struggling financially, but would like to still start therapy. This is based on an individual's, couple's, or parent's income. To learn more about this option, feel free to send a message using the website, call or text the number provided below, or send an email.
Do I qualify for the sliding scale/negotiable prices option?
